Sunshine Rozanne rang in the New Year with her new family and a new name!
The minute Sunny walked into Lisa and William’s home, this girl stole their hearts. Or at least, Lisa’s ~ I’m pretty sure she would have kept her then if she could!
Sunny is making herself right at home and quickly finding her favorite spots in the home. Sunny also gained a brother Diesal.
Way to go, Sunny~ we’re thrilled you’re starting your new year right!
Recently, I got out and decided to take a little stroll. That was a bad idea! See, I hadn’t been out too much, maybe because I was so busy making and tending to babies.
It was getting really hot on the streets and I was super thirsty. Luckily, someone from the shelter picked me up. They got me some water and a nice cool bed. They told me that they would keep me there and give me food and water while we wait for my humans to come pick me up! Well, we waited and waited….
My shelter friends took me down the hall to their vet. They gave me a basic checkup. I got my vaccines, and ~ shew wee ~ I wasn’t prepared for being poked! Turns out it wasn’t so bad. They did a really good job! They told me it was time to focus on me, instead of making babies. Then it was time for a special procedure. I woke up a tad bit sore, but nothing too terrible.
When I got back to the front of the shelter, I asked if my family had arrived yet to pick me up. But nope. Nothing! That’s when my friends told me about rescue. They said someone was going to come early Saturday morning. I explained that I was scared and nervous. They reassured me all over again that I would be in good hands, and that rescue would find me a new family!
On Saturday morning, a woman named Ms. Bobbi arrived to pick me up. I was so scared, I flattened myself to the ground. I didn’t want to go. Then, I learned Bobbi had treats in her pocket. We walked and talked about going to her house. She told me about all the resident Bulldogs that I would get to meet and play with.
By this time, she had me walking alongside her like a champ. We got in the car and Ms. Bobbi had a surprise for me ~ an egg and cheese burrito and she gave it to me. It was so delicious! She talked about all the fun toys I would get to play with and that I also would have my very own special bed with soft blankets.
Well, I met everyone at the foster home and so far so good! I absolutely love my bed! Ms. Bobbi leaves the door open during the day and I go in and out whenever I want. I’m also working on some manners.
I’m getting a bath today! Ms. Bobbi says I smell like a dirty used trash can. I can’t tell a lie ~ the smell has been bothering me too! I’m excited about my bath.
So, all in all, I am settling in pretty well. Ms. Bobbi said I lit up like a ray of sunshine when she rubbed my head and belly. So, that’s what she calls me. I like it a lot! I already respond to it. Of course, it helps when she gives me a treat when I respond. How cool is that?
I will check in again soon. I have a feeling things are just going to keep getting better here. Thank you, Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue, for saving us Bulldogs and giving us a second chance for better lives.
6/21/24 Update: Sunshine Roxanne is a tiny thing. She is only a smidge bigger than my small Frenchie!
She is FULL of energy. She got here from the shelter with not one ounce of manners. She seems to have no idea of being indoors, although she LOVES the comforts of it! She can be overpowering with all her energy and excitement to have attention.
She is a quick learner and has already picked up on what it means ~ and what to do ~ when I ask her or tell her it is time to go potty outside. She knows when it’s time to get into her kennel and she’s learned what “sit” means!
She can get overexcited to get a treat. She will jump up on you to get the treat from your hand quickly. We’re really working on that! She eats like there is no more food coming… ever… so she’s starting on a slow feeder this week.
Sunshine Roxanne is as sweet as can be! She loves to lay in my lap to get pets and love. She is nice to my dogs until it comes to attention. She doesn’t like to share and she will pick a fight. Due to this behavior, she will make a great companion for a family as their only fur baby, or with a single person looking for a loyal companion.
She sleeps great in her kennel and I always leave the door open when she isn’t in it. She will go in there on her own to nap when my lap is full of Bulldogs. With a little patience and time; I fully believe a family will be getting a diamond in the ruff. She wants to learn, and she really wants to please.
7/5/24 Update: It was bath time tonight and Foster Mom said that I did really good this time. I stood still and didn’t try to jump out! I was still a bit nervous though. I must be starting to trust my foster mom because I wasn’t even shaking this time. I also got my hair brushed too! Oh boy~ did that feel so good. I just couldn’t get enough of it!
Foster Mom told me again today what a smart girl I am while we were doing my lessons. I just love all the sweet praises I get here! We worked a lot on not jumping on Foster Mom, as well as not grabbing her hand when getting a special good girl snack. I don’t mean to~ I just get so excited! I only jumped up two times today, and I didn’t accidentally get Foster Mom’s hands.
We also did some more work on the leash. We only walk around the house so far. We make several laps each direction. I’m getting less afraid of that as well. Foster Mom said she may soon take me on one of her early morning walks! I’m really excited about that, so I’m working hard on not being scared.
I’ll check in again soon!
8/8/24 Update: Sunshine is a LOVE Bug. After being on the streets she get extremely excited to get out of her kennel. She loves my son a lot! She is too smart for her own good! I feel like she needs a home where she can be the STAR. He gets along with my resident English Bulldogs but the two frenchies are NOT her cup of tea at all!
She has been working hard on being calm and waiting for treats or food. She can’t hardly think when there is food. I got her a slow feeder, but she uses her paw to flip it over so she can get to the food faster. Think I’m going to try a puzzle feeder. (If anyone has suggestions, I’m listening)
I think she was hungry on the streets for so long; it’s going to take some time for her to relax and realize she won’t go hungry anymore!
She loves to lay out in the Sunshine. She is a drinker! She can drink gallons a day some days. I put ice in her water after she has been out sunning. When I don’t she lays by the fridge waiting for her ice!
She has discovered toys, and loves them. This girl loves to play and loves to be in your lap. She is a ball of energy, but calms right down. She has a precious sweet face!
She is eager to please and get praises. Training time is fun for her. She needs a home where someone is with her more than not. She’s a good girl but just doesn’t know all the indoor manners yet, and looses focus when she sees the other dogs. She gets the zoomies and wants to play so bad!
Bath time is not her favorite time, but she does sit there and let you bathe her. She has mastered sit, potty outside, go to your kennel, and is getting much better at sit and wait. She is going to make someone a great Bulldog companion!!
10/18/24 Update: Sunshine Roxanne checked into her new foster home and is as loving as they come! She is a petite girl at about 35 pounds and would love to be in your lap! She has some eye issues that will be addressed next week and will be ready for adoption very soon.
10/25/24 Update: Sunshine Roxanne would love to find a soft bed of her own! She isn’t a gal that does well in a crate ~ she’s unhappy there. She’ll bark and wet the kennel. Since she’s joined the pack in foster mom’s room, she’s only had a couple of accidents and is waking up dry every morning. She is a sweetheart!
11/8/24 Update: Sunshine Roxanne had her eyes fixed last Thursday along with a surprise surgery to empty her tummy!
Sunshine Roxanne threw up a toy when she got to the vet clinic on Wednesday, and after X-rays were taken, Dr. Larsen decided to open her up. It’s a good thing because she had toy parts and socks in there!
We don’t know how long they had been in there, but obviously, Sunshine needs to watched like a hawk. She might have a taste for just about anything.
11/15/24 Update: Sunshine Roxanne is a sweet and loving girl, but she does require a little extra attention and supervision. She just had her stitches removed after surgery to remove some socks and toys (yes, she’s a bit of a troublemaker!), so for her safety, she needs to be watched closely. If you’re thinking of running out for a quick errand, be warned—she’s a curious little explorer and can’t be left unsupervised! While she doesn’t chew furniture, she does find other things to get into. For example, I thought the dog room was safe, but she managed to pull down a sweater from the closet and even chewed the plastic hanger. Thankfully, all the pieces were accounted for!
On the bright side, Sunshine Roxanne has made great strides with house training. She sleeps through the night without accidents, and if she needs to go out, she knows how to use the dog door. During the day, I don’t give her free roam of the house due to her tendency to munch on things she shouldn’t. However, when I’m home, she happily uses the dog door and usually stays within sight of me. While she may still have occasional accidents in her kennel, I’ve been using washable pee pads along with kennel pads from Far-More Shade, and they’ve been keeping her dry without any issues—she doesn’t even tear them up!
Sunshine Roxanne is a special girl with a lot of love to give, but she’ll need a family who can provide her with a bit of patience and supervision as she continues to grow. If you think you can handle her playful spirit and give her the attention she craves, Sunshine Roxanne just might be the perfect fit for your family!
