8/22/25 UPDATE: Please welcome Tiger Lilly back to our rescue family. Yup, definitely not the update we hoped to share.

Tiger Lilly was recently adopted. And for a moment, it looked like her fairy tale was beginning. But… not all adoptions are the right fit. And this one, unfortunately, unraveled faster than we’d like to admit.

Let’s talk about why — and let’s be honest.

She’s a sweet, loving, snuggly girl who did wonderfully in her foster home with two other dogs. No issues. Zero resource guarding.

Unfortunately, after a long car ride to her new home, where both dogs were fed chicken nuggets in the backseat (probably not the best call), a scuffle broke out. Not an ideal first impression, and certainly not a fair one.

It’s super important to note that every rescue dog needs and deserves an adjustment period. And it seems Tiger Lilly wasn’t given that chance.

We’re sure the adopter meant well, but please put yourself into the paws of the dog. If you got dropped into a new family, would you immediately be comfortable and at ease?

This is where we remind everyone of the 3-3-3 rule in rescue:

3 days to decompress

3 weeks to begin to settle

3 months to truly feel at home

Rescue dogs aren’t instant gratification. They’re not turnkey pets. They need time, consistency and patience. If you’re expecting a dog to arrive fully formed and flawlessly adjusted, rescue is likely not for you.

We work hard to make the best matches possible — but sometimes, even with all our prep and screening it does not work out. That’s what happened here.

Luckily, Tiger Lilly is resilient. In her current foster home, she’s once again proving to be an affectionate, well-mannered sweet girl. Although she may be showing signs of separation anxiety, but who can blame her.

A visiting dog came by to play, and they got along fine, until it was time to share the couch. And maybe, just maybe, Tiger Lilly has finally realized that some things, like family, love and cozy furniture, are worth protecting.

Her perfect forever might be as an only dog, with playdates, dog friends and patios to visit — but a family all her own.

Or maybe there’s an experienced dog-savvy human out there who sees her the way we do: a dog who’s been through too much and deserves so much more. Someone experienced will see her heart, understand her story, and say, “I’ve got you, girl.”

She’s still waiting for her happily ever after. And we’re still fighting to make sure she gets it.

8/6/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: Tiger Lilly has been adopted — and she’s now officially Tilly!

Her new mom, Lisa, and her playful pup Stella made the drive to Dallas to meet her, and let’s just say…it was love at first snort. 💕

Yes, we do out-of-area adoptions — they just take a little more coordination and a lot of heart. Lisa was looking for a companion for her energetic 1-year-old, someone who could keep up and help teach her how to chill. Tilly checked every box.

The two girls hit it off instantly, and when it was time to leave, Tilly walked straight to Lisa’s car and jumped right in like she’d been riding shotgun her whole life. She knew. She was home.

Foster Mom is over the moon knowing this sweet girl gets to finally put down roots and blossom into exactly who she was always meant to be.

Happy trails, Tilly. You did it, baby girl.

6/22/25 INTRODUCTION: Please welcome Tiger Lilly to our rescue family — brave, beautiful and finally free.

From volunteer Dianne: At just 3 years old, Tiger Lilly has already endured more than most dogs do in a lifetime. She had been bred three times — and each time, heartbreak followed. Every pregnancy went full term, and every time, all her puppies were lost. She never got to be the mama. Instead, she sat alone, confused and grieving, wondering where her babies had gone.
But those days are over. No more breeding, no more heartbreak — just the promise of a new beginning. She’s finally free to be spayed, to heal, and to find comfort on someone’s sofa instead of a kennel floor.  On the ride to safety, her nose was running, her body was hot, and her lady parts were leaking. I silently pleaded, “Please don’t give up now — your new life is so close.”

Today, we’re happy to share that Tiger Lilly is responding well to antibiotics and already feeling better. What she needs now is a loving foster home in the Dallas/Fort Worth area — a quiet place where she can rest and recover fully from her surgery. Once she’s healed, she’ll be spayed and ready to find the forever family she’s always deserved.

7/13/25 UDPATE: Tiger Lilly needs a family! From the foster momma: She’s full of personality and has kept us laughing, adjusting, and completely in love with her sweet quirks.

Tiger Lilly’s not a fan of being kenneled or behind closed doors—she’ll bark, scratch, and grumble until she’s free. It took some time, but we finally found a bedtime routine that worked. After several nights of me sleeping in the recliner next to her while she lay on the couch, she transitioned to a soft bed beside ours. She still tries to sneak into bed with us, but she’s learning that just being close is pretty great too.

Tiger Lilly loves to sit on the couch with you, soaking up cuddles and giving the sweetest little kisses. She does amazing on a leash and absolutely loves car rides—ears perked up, eyes alert, always ready for an adventure.

She’s fantastic with all people, even kids. She doesn’t jump on them—just gently follows them around or sits near them like she’s watching over her tiny humans. Her heart is pure gold.

She was also making great progress with potty training. While she never quite got the hang of using the doggy door (she’d come in from outside, but didn’t really figure out that she could go out anytime she wanted), she was very good about going to the back door to let us know she needed to go out — especially if it had been a while since she was offered a potty break.

And personality? Oh, she’s got it! Tiger Lilly came in thinking she might like to be the boss… but our resident Lilly is the original queen bee around here. Let’s just say Tiger Lilly made a power move, but Lilly wasn’t having it. Honestly, Lilly just wasn’t interested in sharing her mom, her space, or her snacks.

We took Tiger Lilly for a recheck on her skin this week. She was officially cleared for surgery and is scheduled to be spayed tomorrow.

This sweet girl is healthy, affectionate and ready to move forward on her journey to her next home. She thrives on love and being near her people.

As soon as she’s healed from her spay, she’ll be ready to start the search for her family—and word on the street is, she’s already pawing through our approved applications looking for the perfect lap to call her own.

7/29/25 UPDATE: Tiger Lilly needs a family! She writes: Hi. It’s me. Tilly. Also known as Tiger Lilly, but no one calls me that unless I’m doing something dramatic. (Which… fair.)

I’ve been with my foster family for a little while now, and let me tell you—it’s nice here. There are soft beds, snack opportunities, and a foster mom who seems to really get me. I follow her from room to room There are lots of toys, I am not sure what to do with them, but my foster mom says I will learn!

There are two other Bulldogs here. They’re sweet. They’re polite. But they don’t play. Apparently naps and slow walks are more their speed. I try to tempt them into a little fun, but they mostly look at me like I’m a toddler with a kazoo.

I’ve got a lot of love to give. Like… a lot. I think maybe because every time I had babies, they didn’t make it. So now my heart’s just packed full, waiting for the right family to come along and soak it up.

I’m on the petite side—less than 50 pounds—but don’t let the size fool you. I am mighty. I walk great on a leash, love kids and every single person i meet, I ride like a dream in the car, and I’ll never turn down a couch snuggle. I don’t need much—just someone to follow, love, and make proud.

So yeah. I’m ready. Are you?
