Turnip the Beet

11/16/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT times two! From the foster pops: Today, Miss Andromeda and Miss Turnip the Beet packed their toys, transition food, treats and a few chunks of our hearts into a Chevy truck and headed out for their two-day journey to Aurora, CO.

Their new mom, Coco, and their skin brother, Aloysius, welcomed them with open arms, alongside their new fur brother, Forrest.

The adoptive crew spent time together last night and this morning, getting everyone settled and building the trust and connection needed for a bright future. Watching the love grow between the two families embodied everything Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue stands for: community, compassion and giving Bulldogs the lives they deserve.

While today marks Meg’s and my second “goodbye” of two Bulldogs headed to Colorado in the past three months (four total!), it also opens the door for us to welcome more deserving Bulldogs into Chez Maison Ménard BBnB. Bulldog withdrawal, as we all know, can be a serious condition for bipeds.

As the truck pulled away, we imagined what Andromeda and Turnip the Beet might have been thinking:

Away we drove off with pieces of your hearts,
And our adoptive family gave us a brand-new start.
But I heard you exclaim, with tears in your eyes,
Fare thee well, dear Bullies—but never goodbye.

I never cry at the goodbye kiss, but my eyeballs do tend to sweat. As Shakespeare wrote in Romeo and Juliet, “parting is such sweet sorrow.” So wipe away the sweat, celebrate the joy for these girls and stay dedicated to the Bulldogs who still need us.

Don’t stop believing…

6/14/25 INTRODUCTION: Please welcome Turnip the Beet to our rescue family! From volunteer Kayle: Introducing Turnip the Beet 🥬🎶 — brindle babe, one blue eye, and enough veggie-powered flair to headline her own farmers market festival. This funky little side dish was technically surrendered… but let’s call it what it was: ghosted via phone and email. No hug, no goodbye, not even a doggy bag. Her family didn’t have the thyme, and Turnip was left holding the emotional rutabaga. But did she wallow in the wilted greens of her past? Nope. She didn’t miss a beet. She tossed her salad days over her shoulder and said, “Lettuce turnip the volume and beet the odds.”  She’s dog-friendly, needs to be spayed, and is otherwise a full-course jam session—equal parts melody, marinated sass, and main-stage energy. Whether she’s fetching or freestyling, this girl’s ready to squash the past and carrot on. Stay tuned as we learn more about this veggie-powered diva—her debut track is already a bop, and the album? Gonna be all killer, no filler.

9/13/25 UPDATE: Turnip the Beet needs a family! She writes: I moved into my new foster home a few days ago, and I settled in fast. By day two, I had already earned full run-of-the-house privileges. And by night two? I was sleeping in the “doggy dormitory”—a.k.a. foster dad’s bed, with my furry roommate.

You could say I’m just lucky, but I earned my cred. I’m fully house-trained, I listen to commands and I give love freely and affectionately. I’m basically the total package.

You may have noticed I have one blue eye and one brown. Just call me a living Crystal Gayle lyric: “Don’t It Make My Brown Eye Blue.”

Beyond lounging and striking poses, I’ve also taken on some important roles:

🧸 Play Coach – I’m teaching my furry roommate how to play. She wants to join in but isn’t quite sure how yet. I’m showing her the ropes, starting with tug-o-war rings. Stay tuned!

🍪 Domestic Assistant – I like to help in the kitchen. I take the lead in sniffing out snacks, meds, and anything dog-centric. Foster Mom helps too… we like to keep her busy.

🚗 Spa Enthusiast – After a long week of training and playing, I treated myself to a spa day. Foster Dad chauffeured while I rode shotgun in style.

All in all, it’s been a big week for me. I’m sweet, loyal, affectionate and ready to bring love and laughs to the lucky family who gets to call me theirs.

Until then, I’ll be here, playing hard and loving harder.

TTFN,
Turnip the Beet 🐾
