I’m here to let you know that I found my home.
Foster Mom told me a story that if she ever adopted another boy Bulldog, she would want to name to him “Walter” after her dad. I thought to myself, “Hey, that’s my name and I am already here. Adopt me!”
Foster Mom was thinking the same thing.
I’m already here, settled in to a routine and I have my room and all my stuffies. So, Foster Mom and I decided I will be her “Walter Aiona,” named after her dad.
This makes me very happy, as I will be celebrating my 9th birthday in May!
Thank you to everyone with Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue, as well as to Dr. Larsen and her staff for all the love and for saving me. Love, Walter
When I left the farm, I road shotgun to make sure I was leaving. And I never looked back.
Yes, I left Green Acres and those farm dogs behind. Farm dogs, cow dogs, herding dogs… whatever they are. I left them all behind, so they could continue to herd things, just not me! I hated being herded and I think they hated me.
A few years back, my mom died and I moved to the farm with some relatives.
Farm life was fun – for a while. Then once the dogs realized I was built different and I didn’t know how to herd, they started picking on me.
You might see the scars on my face? I couldn’t really fight back. Those herding dogs have long faces and when they latch on, they mean business. Me, with my flat face, didn’t stand a chance.
Oh, I tried to fit in because I reminded the family that I was the last thing my mom had before she passed away. But try as I might, it just was not a good living arrangement. The people loved me and I loved them. But those dogs? They just never really understood me.
When I sit with Dr. Larsen, she will tell me I look amazing and she will help me heal. I may not have ever been cut out for the farm life, but I’m one fantastic shot gun rider!
6/9/22 Update: I’m staying in the main bedroom in my foster home. Foster Mom says this is the medical ward, where all the pups recover from surgeries and etc.
Dr. Lay did my soft palate, ear hematoma and neuter surgeries on May 31. I am recovering nicely and Foster Mom feeds me just soft food by hand with my medicine crushed inside.
In a few weeks, I will have to start my heartworm treatment. I’m not looking forward to that, but I will be looking through the approved applications when I am done. I am an easy-going boy and love to be by my people.
I do have a favorite spot to do my business outside. I go to the lavender bush, sniff it and then proceed to “water” it. Sometimes two or three times. I heard they need lots of water!
I’ll keep everyone posted on my progress.
7/9/22 Update: Walter here letting you know that I am doing great on my recovery from palette surgery. I am still eating soft food, just to make sure all heals good. I am a great house guest and I do my part in picking up “stray toys”. I always seem to find some on the way outside, so I make sure to pick them up on the way back to my room. I have a whole collection in my crate! I specialize in finding the soft ones. I have collected piggies, snakes, sloths, but my favorite is my hedgehog!
I have to go next week to the clinic to start my heartworm treatment, then 30 days rest and I will be ready to look thru applications for my new family & home. I am good with most of the house dogs, even the littlest Frenchie, just still not fond of the Scottie.
9/9/22 Update: I want to let you know that I am still looking for my furever family.
I have decided that I like other Bulldogs, but other dogs with “long” noses are a “no go!” I think they remind me too much of my past on the farm and being “bullied.”
I am the best boy and go about my days looking out the windows, playing with my toys and snoozing. I like to bark for my meals. A few of the other Bulldogs here at the foster home do too, so I am just going with the flow…
Oh, and I love to give hugs. Walter
3/7/23 Update: I’ve just been hanging out at the foster home, in my semi-private suite, with my best bud Lato, the Frenchie. We like to share our toys, look out the window and bark when it is time to eat.
I am still patiently waiting for my furever family. I don’t need much, just a place to sleep, eat and chill with my toys. I love to give hugs and will gladly let you scratch my neck.
The other day, I was enjoying the sun, but then I heard something… Foster Mom said it was a wind chime!
Hopefully, I will get to go to a rescue event soon. I am looking forward to getting lots of hugs.
8/3/23 Update: Walter Cronkite reporting….Just kidding. It’s me, Walter.
I would like to thank everyone who came out to the Bulldog Bonanza last Saturday. I appreciated all of the hugs and scratching. I enjoyed visiting with everyone. I met a lot of Bulldogs at the event too. Who knew that there were so many of us out there? Some of the younger ones were very curious, but I didn’t let that bother me. I just kept on strolling.
They tell me I am a senior Bulldog and that there are special people out there who love to adopt seniors. Well, I hope I met someone at the event who would love to have me lounge around their house.
10/5/23 Update: “Am I not the most handsome senior? I’m a good boy and I’m still waiting for a family to adopt me.” ~
1/25/24 Update: I know it’s been awhile since I’ve checked in, but there hasn’t been anything new going on with me ~ just chilling at the foster crib. I’m thinking it’s been almost two years now.
I have to go see Dr. Larsen soon for my yearly stuff, but that’s about it. I’m still hanging out with the foster Frenchie. We have a few scuffles every now and then…. when he thinks I want the “invisible” kibble on the floor. He always starts it!
3/5/24 Update: It’s me Walter and I was at the Irish Festival on Saturday. I had a great time and I got to meet a lot of nice people and was getting an unlimited amounts of pets and booty scratches! I hung out with Lori & Lola Amigo and Hogan. FM bought me a new toy Turkey for being such a gentleman. Turk & I were just chilling on the way home.
