Wishbone

Wishbone

Today has been an exciting day for Wishbone. It’s his adoption day!

Wishbone is joining an amazing family. He has a mom, dad, fur brother and fur sister. When they met yesterday, all the fur babies became fast friends. We are so excited for Wishbone and his new family!

P.S. For anyone keeping count, Wishbone gained 17.6 lbs. in rescue. He came into rescue at a teeny, tiny 19 lbs. and is now a happy and healthy 36.6 lbs.

Please welcome Wishbone to our rescue family. He’s obviously in need of a lot of love… and a lot of food.

From volunteer Dianne: After meeting Wishbone in person, I was confronted with the harsh reality that evil does exist.

At just a year old and weighing only 15 pounds, Wishbone is just a shell of a Bulldog.

A compassionate woman discovered him at a “friend’s” house, confined in a crate, sitting in his own feces and urine for days. It turned out that this “friend” had lost interest in Wishbone once he outgrew puppyhood, condemning him to neglect and starvation.

She was horrified, unable to comprehend how anyone could treat an animal in such a way.

Gently, she rescued him. She took him home, bathed and fed him. She promised him that his life would change forever. She then reached out to our rescue.

Today, there were many tears as Wishbone’s savior said her goodbyes, and he responded with loving licks, knowing she had saved him. Welcome to a better life, Wishbone—you are truly loved.

9/27/24 Update:  I had a visit with Dr. Larsen and she called with some great news! My kidney and liver functions look good and I don’t have any heartworms or other nasty parasites. She said I didn’t have any thyroid issues and that one day my eyes should look more “normal.”

My immune system could use a little boost, so I’ll be getting multivitamins, probiotics, and omegas added to my meals. For now, I’ll be on a diet of puppy food and fresh, healthy snacks as I work toward my goal weight of 40 lbs.

As you can see from my pictures, I love toys, am an expert at cuddling, and I get along with other dogs. Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue alumnus Rubble gave me a run for my money with the tug toy!

Thank you for following me on my journey from starvation to stellar!

10/4/24 Update:  Wishbone has gained just over 10 lbs. since joining his foster home! Even though he has stopped searching for food constantly, he still wants to eat everything in sight. Yesterday, he snuck into his food bucket and had a feast before I caught him.

10/11/24 Update:  Now that Wishbone is confident we’ll feed him his next meal, he’s working hard on learning the house rules.

While he’s not interested in going outside alone, he’s doing well with potty training. Occasionally, he will peek his head out the doggy door, but he’s not interested in using it to explore the outdoors.

Wishbone has gained another 2 pounds since his last update. Check out these pictures ~ those aren’t bones poking out. They’re wrinkles starting to fill out!

Thank you for allowing us to help him get his fresh start!

10/18/24 Update:  Wishbone is looking and acting more like a Bulldog every day!

He will bark and sass his pants off if the water bowl gets too close to being empty. He doesn’t leave the kitchen for any reason if someone is cooking. And he’s a tad stubborn.

Wishbone isn’t fully potty trained, but he’s making progress. We’ve slowly switched him from four meals per day to two meals per day. Don’t worry ~he gets the same amount of food, just less meal times!

Wishbone has a vet visit soon and then, he will be one step closer to finding his future family.

10/25/24 Update:  Wishbone needs a family! As you may recall, Wishbone was skin and bones when he came to rescue. Look at him now!

From his foster momma: Wishbone had a date with Dr. Larsen to lose “that loving feeling,” and now he’s looking through those approved applications to find the perfect forever home.

Wishbone is doing well with potty training. He’s figured out how to use the dog door to go in and out to the backyard, but he still needs to be encouraged to go outside on occasion (like if it’s dark, rainy, or cold).

When it’s dinner time, Wishbone will run in circles until his meal is presented to him. He benefits from a slow feeder bowl, because he is always excited to see his next meal! The slow feeder bowl frustrates him a little bit, but it prevents him from inhaling his food and choking.

Wishbone gets medicated baths to help with his skin, but we have put a pause on those until he heals and his stitches are removed.

I tried to get a video of him sassing me while waiting on his water bowl refill, but the second I turned on the camera he wanted to show what an angel he is. Enjoy!
