Adopt a Bulldog

Alexa

Sometimes a pup will act one way and they get adopted and something happens. Maybe the change triggers something from their past. Maybe they received so much love that they get possessive over their human or a particular spot and don’t want to share them. Maybe their fear and anxiety get the best of them and it causes them to act out in ways they hadn’t before. Maybe a pup would just be happier as the only fur in the house. My name is Alexa and I was adopted a while back by a very nice family. No matter what they did or how hard they tried, I was just not happy. My fears and anxiety would not allow me to be happy and I was acting in ways I knew were not right. Foster mom told me I’m a very sweet girl and rescue will help with my anxiety.

I met some great people at Bar 2909 the other day and you talk about a self esteem booster. So many people loved on me and told me I was beautiful and precious! I had never heard so many nice things.

I also heard that one family came that day just to meet me. Well, I must have just wowed them because a week later they came back and picked me up!

They had to wait an entire week because they went on a trip to New York. I’m not sure what New York is, but foster mom said it’s a spectacular city. Let’s just say that my new parents must think I’m pretty spectacular too because even though they had fun in New York, all they wanted to do was get home so they could pick me up. I think that is a pretty big deal to be spectacular like New York.

My new mom and dad said they are going to spoil me and that my new role in the house will be the queen. How magical is that?

Hello everyone, it’s me Alexa joining rescue. To say I wish my name was not Alexa is an understatement.  You see Amazon came out with Alexa in 2014 and she can do everything.  Turns on the lights, play music, tell you the weather,  are just a few things she can do. Every day someone in my house was yelling Alexa, I thought they were talking to me.  I would come running.  They were not!  I stayed confused. Finally, I decided enough is enough and I am moving to a home where I will be the only Alexa in the house!

I am only 3 years old. I am very small for a lady bulldog, so I am for the family who likes little.  I have had babies recently and I retired myself from ever doing that again. Babies are a lot of trouble.  I can still hear my family saying, “Alexa your babies are beautiful,” but I was like go talk to the Amazon Alexa because she loves babies.  Me, I am baby free now, going to get that baby maker closed for good and find me a family without an Amazon Alexa so I will know when someone is talking to me!

I am kinda shy, kinda small, but just about the cutest Alexa you will ever meet! My name is Alexa, and I am as cute as can be!

6/28/21 Update:  Alexa checked into her foster home this week and is doing great! She is sweet, scared of every sound and movement, but loves the affection of a human!

8/24/21 Update:  Are you in the market for a couch ornament? Alexa just may be your gal. The couch is still one of her favorite spots!

Alexa has been in her foster home for about two months and is starting to relax and settle into the home. She will jump 2 feet off the ground at any noise, loud or quiet, and quick movements send her running for cover. But each day she gets more comfortable and having the other pups around, help her tremendously. Although she would be A-OK with having the humans to herself!

9/27/21 Update:  Alexa likes the couch but she had no idea about a dog bed. For weeks I have been trying to get her to lay and sleep on a dog bed. She would lay on the floor next to the beds, all day every day! This morning was the morning I have been waiting for!

8/3/22 Update:  Alexa captured a little vitamin D before it got too hot today!

Alexa is doing great in her foster home. Even though she prefers to spend her time and enjoy her space alone, she has been doing great with the pups. She is not playful with other pups, but she is with humans. She is very sweet and loving, but needs a strong alpha parent to keep her in line! She will easily claim a space as hers and get cranky if a pup enters that space.

11/3/22 Update:  Alexa may not like all other pups, but she has learned to share space with her foster sister Norma.

3/3/23 Update:  Alexa is still looking for her furever home! She is thriving in her foster home. She may not like everyone all the time, but she has learned that life is better without the “mean girl attitude!” She still forgets from time to time, but with a very stern “ALEXA,” she is quickly corrected.

She doesn’t get left out with anyone; she enjoys her outside time alone. She loves her kennel, so she is OK when she has to have her solo time. Most of the time she sleeps in a bed next to Foster Mom’s bed, along with three or four other foster siblings and occasionally, she will sneak in the big bed! Well, she thinks she is sneaking, but I secretly let it slide if she is being nice!

1/16/24 Update:  Alexa has been in rescue for a very long time. She was adopted and came back because she did not like the rambunctious puppy! Does she have quirks, yes! Are they bad quirks, no!

Alexa does not want to be an only dog but she does not want to live with active in your face dogs! She has always been on the scared/leery side but having another dog makes her a lot more comfortable. Alexa thrives at Mays Manor with 6 or 7 other pups that have all kinds of personalities! Alexa will snarl and growl at every dog that comes through the door. She lets them know not to invade her space! Once she has made it clear and she realizes they mean her no harm, usually a few weeks and it’s over. She trusts them and they know she doesn’t play, all is right in her world. She will sit next to them and take treats, she will walk outside with them, she will lay on the couch with them. What she will not do is play, she will not share her crate, and she isn’t going to share her bed. She will growl to let them know they are getting too close and they go on about their business.

She would love a quiet and calm home. She also never fully became house broken, she gets close so many times but then will just go in her kennel or wherever. I think for some mill mommas the habit is just too hard to break. She is sweet, affectionate, and loves to snuggle!

5/9/24 Update:  Alexa loves her people! She has some quirks that make finding a home for her challenging, but she still deserves to family to call her own.

She thrives in her foster home and 95% of the time, she tolerates being in a large pack! She doesn’t need to be an “only fur child,” but she does need to be with space-mindful pups that know how to mind their own business! In public, she needs a trusted fur friend to follow and help her relax.

6/8/24 Update:  Alexa just had her yearly check up and she is one healthy Bulldog! She was nervous but did great at the vet! She’s been in rescue for a very long time and she deserves a home to call her own!

She will be celebrating a birthday tomorrow! Let’s wish her a happy 6th birthday!
