Denali Daphne

WECLCOME BACK: Hello all. It’s Fester and Denali, and after 5 years we are back   Sunday morning a transport picked us up and we headed back to join rescue. Fester is tan and he is smaller and has a red harness on, he is 7. Denali is 20lbs thicker and she loves to eat. She is 9 and has a growth on her foot. They travel everywhere side by side.

Denali loves her food and she does not need to be fed close to Fester because she has no trouble running him off and eating his also.

Returning to rescue has been hard on them. They looked at me like “who the hell are you and why am I here?”  I would love to say they have a bright future that there will be a family who will want to adopt these 2 seniors, but I really don’t know.

They went to the vet yesterday and had a complete checkup, got all their vaccinations, and made an appointment to have the growth taken off Denali’s foot.

Nancy and Scott will foster them for only a short time due to a lot of things going on in their families right now. But let’s all try and find these 2 a home in their golden years. This is so not fair.

INTRODUCTION: I am 4 years old and I am one lovely lady, if I must say so myself. Everyone I meet, I love. I have no desire to fight with anyone. If I see trouble coming my way, I just run the other way as fast as I can. Dr. Larsen told me I had the most beautiful face and when she finished with me, I was going to have the most beautiful body to go with this beautiful face. Watch for me as I blossom into an even more amazing Bulldog lady.

9/14/20 Update:  After moving into my foster home a few days ago, this is what my foster parents have learned: I am super sweet. I just love everyone and want to constantly show my affection. I am a fast learner. I did have a couple of accidents on my first day, but then I learned how to use the doggy door and am happy to report there have been no accidents since then.

I LOVE to get down and wrestle on the floor with foster dad. I am 4 years old, but I still love to play like a puppy. I am also learning that toys are kind of fun too. Foster mum says I am such a good girl, but I do have to work on my manners a little. See, I get so excited, I just want to jump up on people and even the counter when dinner is being made. Did I mention I love food? Well, I do! I will even sit for treats. Well, I am going to get back to my snacks and being cute. Hopefully, I will get to meet you soon. Big sloppy kisses, Denali Daphne

9/20/20 Update:  Denali has had a blow out week–literally. Somehow when foster mom was in the shower the dog bed exploded all over the place. But several days after getting a new bed, all is well.

10/3/20 Update:  Feeling cute today! Might dress up in my Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue T-shirt! Might also take a nap on foster mum! ~ foster girl Denali Daphne

10/20/20 Update:  Denali has been in her foster home for about a month now. Denali is the sweetest girl and loves couch snuggles, playing tug o’ war, food and naps. She has been the perfect houseguest. She knows where to go potty and goes into her crate with no complaints.

Denali has been having the best time rough housing with her foster brother Fester. Her furever family is going to be so lucky to have this precious girl.

6/25/25 UPDATE: From the foster momma: Greetings from this dynamic duo! Denali Daphne soaked up the sunshine on Tongue Out Tuesday as she prepped for her surgery today. She’s made a strong recovery from pneumonia and was ready to have the mass on her foot removed. A biopsy will be done, so please keep her in your thoughts and prayers—we’re hoping for good news and a benign result. We’ll share updates as we have them! Meanwhile, Fester fully embraced Toofers Out Tuesday yesterday! He’s proving to be a top-notch work-from-home companion. If you’re looking for the ultimate office buddy, he’s your guy—but he wants to remind everyone that sweet Denali Daphne have to be a package deal. After all, behind every strong man is an even stronger woman!
7/7/25 UPDATE: From foster girl Denali Daphne: I’m so HAPPY! I just wanted to let everyone know that the tumor that was removed from my foot a few weeks ago came back benign! NO CANCER! Hip, hip, hooray! Dog bones and pup cups on the house for everyone! Let’s celebrate!
8/18/25 UPDATE: We’re looking for a great family for Denali Daphne! She writes: Sorry I haven’t written much this summer — I’ve been busy working on getting well! First, I came down with pneumonia. Then, I had surgery to remove a benign tumor from my foot. Just when I thought I was on the mend, I developed a pretty nasty wound infection that needed daily dressing changes and a special antibiotic.

But guess what? I finally stabilized enough to have my foot sutured, and as of 8/15/25… the sutures are out, the cone is gone, and I’m bandage-free! 🎉 My foot looks amazing — and more importantly, I feel amazing!

All I need now is a glass slipper and a family to call my own. 💕

I’m so grateful to the wonderful humans who helped me heal: Allen Veterinary Hospital, Frisco Emergency Pet Care, Josey Ranch Pet Hospital and of course, my awesome foster folks.

Even though I was pretty sick, I made so many friends along the way. I actually looked forward to my daily car rides to the vet clinic. Everyone there treated me like royalty. They said I was so sweet, so pretty, and so well-behaved, I could model for vet school demonstrations! I kind of became the unofficial mascot at Frisco ER, and they really made me feel special.

Now that I’m feeling better, I’m embracing my true self: a pampered princess! 👸 I love being cuddled, doted on and fed delicious meals. Lounging is my favorite activity… ideally somewhere soft, cozy and fit for a queen.

At this point in my life, I’m looking for my own kingdom. No furry courtiers, please. I’ve earned my crown, and I’d love to spend my golden years being adored and spoiled like the royalty I am.

Would you like to be my happily ever after? I’m ready for my fairy tale ending.

With love and bum wags,
Denali Daphne
XOXO 💖

10/26/25 UDPATE: We’re working to find Denali Daphne a great family!

She writes: Happy (almost) Halloween, friends! 👑

Remember me? It’s Denali Daphne, the beautiful, sweet and sassy Queen D herself!

I’m spending my spooky season perched here in the pumpkin patch, waiting for my King… The Great Pumpkin! Have you seen him? Because this royal gal is on the lookout!

My foster folks took me to Bull-O-Ween last weekend, and oh my gourd, it was amazing! I was secretly hoping I’d meet my Great Pumpkin there. Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t… but I’m not giving up hope!

If you happen to see him (or hear him asking about me), please send him my way. Until then, I’ll be right here in the patch, waiting patiently. When he finally picks me, he’s going to get the biggest, sweetest, most perfect Cinderella pumpkin ever. And that’s the fairytale ending we’re all rooting for!

Stay tuned, my loyal subjects!👑

Love and licks,
Queen D 💋

12/1/25 UPDATE: We’re working to find Denali Daphne the best home for her! She shares: Please pardon my French consonance, but I thought it only fitting as I crossed the threshold into Chez Maison Ménard BnB. I arrived this week, and can you say Chien Heureux—“Happy Dog?”

Just minutes after my former foster peeps left, I was already standing in Foster Dad’s office, looking up at him and asking for affection. Based on the welcome treats alone, these humans show real promise.

Both of my foster families are seasoned Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue pros. I even agreed to transfer from one home to another to help with what they called “exigent circumstances”—a phrase I picked up from an episode of Law & Order.

While everyone was chatting, I overheard a dirty D-word: “DIET.” I also caught a few other choice terms: chunky, chubby and the dreaded fat. Surely they weren’t talking about me? Alas, it appears I must shed about 10 pounds. A gorgeous senior lady such as myself cannot rely on beauty alone; I must regain the svelte figure of my youth. Stay tuned for future glamour updates.

I also heard them call me a “green dog.” At first I was confused, but then it clicked. They must mean energy conservation. That part is true. Why get up before dinner and waste all the precious energy stored in my paws?

Now, let me tell you what I adore: being brushed, touched, stroked, hugged… you name it. I wanted to hop onto the sofa with Foster Mom to watch a Hallmark chick flick and soak up some love, but since my athletic abilities are… limited, we came up with a better plan. Foster Mom built me a stairway to heaven so I could climb up and down at will.

To show my appreciation, I snuggled right up to her and placed my paw gently on her. My way of saying, “I love being here with you, and thank you for loving on me.”

Foster Dad, on the other hand, is a complete pushover. With a little help from past adopters and the Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue crew, he has converted to homemade food. He made a batch this morning, full of fresh ingredients: ground proteins, leafy greens, root veggies, squashes, legumes, grains, pastas, pomes, tropical fruits… yadda yadda yadda, as Seinfeld would say. A girl could get used to this kind of pampering.

At bedtime, my peeps sensed I needed extra closeness, so they moved my special stairs into the doggy dormitory. I climbed right in and decided that from now on, I will be sleeping in Foster Dad’s bed. They even rebuilt a ramp to make my climb easier. How blessed am I?

I’ve also placed an unofficial claim on Foster Dad. My paw said it all as I stretched out confidently in the doggy dormitory. Do you think I can keep this guy?

For those who love seniors, I’m your girl. We offer limitless love and very few troubles. Send in your applications and maybe I’ll be your perfect match. Maybe I can find my home for the holidays.

Merry Christmas and safe travels to Santa Paws.

1/3/26 UPDATE ~ From foster girl Denali Daphne: May 2026 be your best year ever, and mine too, for that matter. 💙

We retired seniors are wonderfully low-maintenance. We ask for very little and cherish the same things you do: serenity, comfort, peace, and most importantly, excellent food. I express my appreciation after meals with what my people lovingly call the Bowl Clang Symphony. Consider that a five-star review.

Comfort is also very important to me, and I take it seriously. I rotate between my personal beds like a professional: Coolaroo, Mississippi and Fluffy. Each serves a purpose, and all are beloved. One has even received a thoughtful repair from Foster Mom, which just proves that love (and upholstery thread) can fix just about anything.

I’m well behaved, occasionally stubborn and deeply affectionate. I prefer to be the only dog in the home. After all, at my age, who wants to compete for attention and cuddles?

My people say it takes a special heart to adopt a senior. They’ve welcomed many over the years. Some found forever homes, and some stayed on as cherished lifers. Either way, seniors like me give back far more love than we ask for.

If you’re looking for a calm, devoted companion with excellent manners and a gentle soul, I may be your girl. Looking for love? Send in an application and I may be your perfect match!

1/31/26 UPDATE ~ We’re working to match Denali Daphne to a great family for her!

She writes: Dear adoptive Bulldog-sphere,

Dame Denali Daphne reporting in with some very good news.

I moved into my new digs exactly two months ago weighing 67 pounds. Today, I proudly tip the scales at 60.4 pounds, a 9.9% loss in just two months. While I still have some work to do before reaching full “bikini-ready” status for warm weather, I strongly advise you not to bet against me.

I am a senior gal, turning 10 years young in May. These days, my puppy playtimes have gracefully given way to frequent and much-appreciated nap days. All I truly want is a loving home, a warm bed, and plenty of good food. And I assure you, I am very grateful for all three.

Speaking of beds… my people promised me a new one, and I spotted it sitting on a chair with the tag still attached. Taking matters into my own paws, I attempted to retrieve it myself. Sadly, physics was not on my side, as you may have seen in the video. Back to my current bed I went, dignity mostly intact.

I am also pleased to report that I’ve returned to my post as guard dog. Do not let the snoring fool you. I am always on duty.

I know not every adopter is looking for a senior Bulldog. Truly, it takes a special soul with a compassionate heart. In return for that kindness, I have nothing but love, loyalty and gratitude to give.
~~~~~~~~~~~
From her foster pops: Regarding Denali’s weight loss, she’s thriving on the same homemade food regimen we learned from volunteers Nancy and Scott, with some added wisdom from Katie and Matt.
We rotate proteins every two weeks, but (as with humans) the biggest factor has been portion control. Meals have been adjusted to ¾ cup per serving. Like her fellow residents at Bulldog Happy Hour, she also enjoys fresh and frozen fruit, cottage cheese, sliced cheese, yogurt and the occasional bit of pastry.
I love making their food. And judging by the enthusiastic bowl-clang symphony, they love it too.
2/27/26 UPDATE ~ We’re working to find a great home for foster girl Denali Daphne! She writes: My retirement years are unfolding in the literal lap of luxury. How blessed am I to have found Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue? I now enjoy a comfortable, happy foster home, with soft beds, warm snuggles and all the love a girl could ask for.
That said, I do still maintain a (reduced) work schedule. One of my primary responsibilities is keeping Foster Dad calm and emotionally supported. You should have seen the look of horror on his face as he watched the blizzard totals in his former hometown climb to record-breaking levels! Thankfully, I sensed his distress immediately and snuggled in a little closer.
Mission accomplished. His anxiety eased, his breathing slowed and before long, he nodded right off to sleep. Just another way I earn my keep around here.
Now that I’ve completed my shift… is it Bulldog Happy Hour yet? I’ve definitely worked up an appetite.
3/23/26 UPDATE ~ We’re working to match Denali Daphne to the right family for her! She writes: My needs these days might surprise you. They’re beautifully simple. A cozy home, soft beds, good food and love. That’s it. In return, I offer unwavering affection and my very own “security services”…more on that in a moment.
At nearly 10 years old, I understand my adoption prospects may not be what they once were, but please don’t let that fool you. I’m a happy, content girl who still has so much love and companionship to give. I’m especially grateful to the kind people who recognize the value of a seasoned dog and the special bond we share with our humans. It’s truly something extraordinary.
Now, I’ll be honest…every now and then I have a little “oopsie” or wander into a room and forget why I went there. But from what I can tell, plenty of humans do the same thing, so I’d say we’re in good company.
As for my duties: while it may look like I spend my days napping (often), I’m actually keeping a watchful eye on my surroundings. My version of security is subtle but effective. I stay close, stay aware and make sure everything feels safe and calm. It’s important work, especially when it involves supervising the human who also happens to prepare my meals.
At heart, I’m what you might call a gentle soul… bringing comfort, calm, and quiet companionship wherever I go. I’m happiest sharing peaceful moments, soaking up love and returning it tenfold (especially in the evenings when it’s time to wind down together).
If you’ve ever considered opening your home to a dog in their sunset years, I hope you’ll think about all we bring to your life… steadiness, gratitude and a kind of love that only comes with time.
4/7/26 UPDATE ~ We’re working to find Denali Daphne a great family for her! She writes: Dame Denali Daphne reporting from her peaceful kingdom…
Some may call me a golden girl, but I prefer sunshine girl. Give me a warm patio, a quiet day and a cozy place to rest, and I am living my very best life.
Speaking of comfort… I take my lounging very seriously. My bed is a carefully curated masterpiece (a blend of Coolaroo and Mississippi, customized to perfection). My foster staff (yes, staff) tested several versions before I gave my royal approval. I do enjoy a good chew now and then, so occasional “renovations” are required… but nothing my team can’t handle. 😉
I’ll admit, I’m a lady who knows what she likes. I prefer serenity over chaos, which means big, busy events just aren’t my scene. I thrive in a calm, predictable home where I can relax, recharge and enjoy the finer things in life.
But don’t mistake my love of peace for a lack of love. I am a loyal, soulful companion who will happily share my quiet world with someone special.
If you’re an approved applicant and would like to meet me, private audiences can be arranged through Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue (my people will handle the details).
I’m looking for a family who appreciates sunshine, comfort and a distinguished lady of refined taste.
Stay tuned for further dispatches.
4/18/26 UPDATE ~ We’re working to match Denali Daphne to the right family for her! She writes: Do you seek a 58-pound lapdog who sleeps with you on the love seat? Then I am your girl.
Yeah, my butt slips over my foster dad’s knee, but I have a paw grip on him for secondary stability.
Foster Day and I can only tolerate Foster Mom’s TV pabulum until we call it a nap.
As a senior, I value your love and devotion more than most. Love never changes.
