Adopt a Bulldog

Koko Lovebug

12/24/25 INTRODUCTION: Please welcome Koko Lovebug to our rescue family! She writes: On Christmas Eve, I need to make sure Santa knows I have a new address. I definitely don’t want him to forget about me! Of course, Santa already knows I’ve been the best Bulldog mama ever. I’m working on getting my baby weight off, but for now I’m still a little saggy… and yes, I’m proudly a bit thick.

I was born on April 9, 2021, and recently I had a visitor named Ms. Laura. She came to see if she could lift both me and my daughter, Journey Sage, since we had all our medical needs taken care of and needed a foster home. Oh and I almost forgot to mention, I brought my daughter with me when I left the farm! I climbed right up into Ms. Laura’s lap, but Journey Sage wasn’t quite convinced that lap-sitting was her thing, so she kept a little distance.

I should also be honest and let y’all know that we haven’t lived in a home before. We’ve only known kennel life. So before you get too excited about being matched to me or Journey Sage, please understand that we’ll need patience and help learning indoor and outdoor rules. We’re trying our very best, and we don’t want anyone to be upset if we make a few mistakes along the way.

We’ve left the farm, we’ve moved inside, and step by step (slowly but surely) we will learn. With love and understanding, we promise to become the best Bulldogs you’ve ever met.

3/28/26 UPDATE ~ We’re working to match Koko Lovebug to a great family for her! She writes: I wanted to send you a little note because my foster family says I’m finally ready to find my next home and I just had to re-introduce myself.

I’ve been here for a few weeks now, and I’m really starting to come into my own. I go on a couple of short walks each day while I work on my fitness journey (my foster family says I’m just a little “extra lovable” right now). I can hop halfway onto the couch all by myself, but I still appreciate a gentle boost from behind to make it all the way up. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?

I’ve discovered something pretty amazing here… toys! I have two big stuffies and two XL tennis balls, and I love them. I’m very gentle with them (they’re all still intact!), which makes my humans think I may not have had toys of my own before. I’ve also been learning from my fur-siblings and—big news—I’ve officially mastered the doggy door!

I’m a total pro when it comes to house training, and I sleep peacefully through the night in my crate (with the door open, just how I like it). When I’m not exploring the backyard or soaking up my favorite back scratches, I’m usually happily snoozing. Morning, afternoon and evening naps are kind of my specialty.

Most importantly, I’ve learned what it feels like to be safe, loved and cared for… and I’m so ready to find that feeling in a home of my very own. I can’t wait to meet my person… the one who will cherish and spoil me just like I’ve always dreamed.

6/8/26 UPDATE ~ From Koko Lovebug’s foster pops: We wanted to share an update on the beautiful Koko Lovebug, who joined her foster home at the beginning of March.

Koko Lovebug is a stunning Bulldog with a squishy face and the cutest chubby paws you’ve ever seen. When she first arrived, she was a bit reserved and carried plenty of Bulldog attitude. Given her past, it’s likely she had never known the comfort and love every dog deserves, so we understood.

What we soon learned was that much of her grumpiness was actually pain. A veterinary exam revealed a severe urinary tract infection that had likely been bothering her for quite some time. Once treatment began and she started feeling better, Koko Lovebug’s true personality emerged. And what a sweetheart she is.

Today, Koko Lovebug is a spunky, affectionate, fun-loving girl. She loves being near her people and will happily follow you from room to room, but she’s also perfectly capable of entertaining herself when needed. She is fully house-trained, with her only accident occurring during the height of her UTI.

Koko Lovebug is wonderfully quiet, although she does treat her family to some impressive Bulldog snoring once she’s settled into a deep sleep.

She has done beautifully with other dogs after proper introductions. She currently lives peacefully alongside her foster family’s 3-year-old Boxer, respectfully gives space to their cranky 13-year-old Mastiff, and handles visits from two female Labs with ease. She also loved her foster Bulldog brother, Murphy. After taking time to get acquainted, the two became cuddle buddies and bedtime companions.

Koko Lovebug is not a picky eater and enjoys her meals with enthusiasm. Thanks to a healthy diet and routine, she has slimmed down from nearly 90 pounds to a much healthier 71 pounds. She’s feeling better, moving better and looking fantastic.

Her medical journey hasn’t been without challenges. Koko Lovebug recently battled a stubborn staph-related UTI that required an extended course of antibiotics. While the infection improved significantly, the medication had to be stopped early after causing temporary muscle tremors.

As a result of her previous life, Koko also developed a hernia from a prior surgery and has entropion, a condition in which the eyelids roll inward and irritate the eyes.

This morning, Koko Lovebug was dropped off for surgery so she can be more comfortable. We are hopeful that once she recovers, she will feel better than she has in a very long time.

We are incredibly grateful for the support that has made Koko Lovebug’s care possible. Every step of her journey has been focused on giving her the healthy, happy life she deserves.

From a dog who arrived uncomfortable and hurting, Koko Lovebug has blossomed into a joyful, affectionate companion who adores her people and her canine friends. We can’t wait to see her continue to thrive as she recovers and prepares for the next chapter of her life.

Please keep Koko Lovebug in your thoughts today as she undergoes surgery. We know this brave girl has a bright future ahead of her, and we’ll be sure to share updates as she recovers.
