3/22/26 FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS ~ A heartbreaking update this morning from our volunteer, Meegyn:
Please join us in lighting a candle for sweet Princess Margo, formerly known as Duchess Blackbeard. She went to sleep a happy girl and peacefully never woke up.
In the short time they shared (less than a year), Margo brought endless love, laughter and joy into her mom’s life. She is deeply heartbroken by this loss.
Please keep Margo’s mom, and Sonia, her former foster momma, in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you. 🙏

7/15/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: Some dogs are just meant to be found by the right people — and Duchess Blackbeard (now Margo) found hers. 💜
Jillian and Lindsey have made it their mission to rescue dogs who often get overlooked — the ones who look a little different or have quirks that make them extra special. Bulldogs have always held a place in their hearts, and after losing their beloved pup some time ago, they knew they’d open their hearts again when the timing — and the dog — was right.
They saw many faces come and go, but when they came across Duchess Blackbeard, something about her kept pulling them back. Maybe it was her one eye, or maybe it was just fate. After one conversation, they knew — this was their girl.
Just a few days later, they made the 5-hour drive, met her in person, fell in love, and brought her home. Now Duchess Blackbeard has a new name — Margo, new fur siblings, and two moms who absolutely adore her.
Welcome home, Margo — your family has found you. 🐾💕

INTRODUCTION: Duchess Blackbeard’s journey to rescue began when she was found as a stray.
Thankfully, she was rescued just before the freezing cold weather set in and spent some time at the shelter, hoping her family would come looking for her. But, when no one came, she was perfectly content. After all, she was tired of having babies and ready to enjoy her retirement.
The moment I laid eyes on her, I thought of rich, smooth Dutch chocolate, so I knew she had to be a Duchess. But she needed a middle name. As she gazed up at me with her one good eye, I couldn’t help but think, “You’re a beautiful pirate!” So, I named her after one of the most legendary pirates of all time—Blackbeard. She wiggled with excitement, and just like that, Duchess Blackbeard was (re)born!
Welcome to rescue, sweet girl, and to the start of your new life!
1/22/25 UPDATE: e shelter with a nasty case of kennel cough/upper respiratory infection, but the good news is she’s feeling much better this week!
She’s already making great strides—she figured out the doggy door all on her own. I let her outside to potty, and when I came back a few minutes later, she wasn’t out there. I went to check her kennel and found her happily inside, playing with a few toys she must have picked up on her way back!
Duchess Blackbeard is such a happy girl, and it’s so heartwarming to see her thrive!
1/30/25 UPDATE: Duchess Blackbeard is one step closer to finding her next family! She received mostly great news at the vet, though she’s tested positive for heartworms.
But don’t worry – she’ll soon be receiving both her spay surgery and heartworm treatment, and will be ready to meet her perfect family! She was a superstar at the vet and an absolute angel in the car.
2/7/25 UPDATE: Duchess Blackbeard is as sweet as can be and absolutely loves her toys—sometimes even more than people! She’s heading in for her spay surgery tomorrow and will be all set to find her next family in no time.
2/20/25 UPDATE: Duchess Blackbeard is working on her house training, and her diaper is helping her manage the urge to go wherever she happens to be. She’s making progress and will be a potty pro in no time!
3/7/25 UPDATE: Duchess Blackbeard is the happiest girl! She loves her toys, gets along with people of all ages, and is easygoing—she minds her own business and gets along with everyone. Not shy at all, Duchess Blackbeard is always curious about what you’re doing and will be right by your side or underfoot, eager to help in any way she can!
When Duchess Blackbeard first arrived, she had a terrible UTI, which required several rounds of antibiotics to clear up. On top of that, she had kennel cough that turned into pneumonia and was heartworm positive. Despite all of that, she’s still so full of joy! Indoor accidents are happening less frequently, and she has a checkup this week to ensure her lungs and urine are clear.
3/20/25 UPDATE: Check off another item on Duchess Blackbeard’s bucket list: TRAVEL! She had a bit of stress here and there, but overall, she was the perfect traveler. The toughest part was the car ride during the windstorm on Friday, but that was more stress for her human than for her! Foster mom is thrilled to report that Duchess didn’t have a single potty accident the entire time.
4/23/25 UPDATE: Foster kids Duchess Blackbeard, Hazel Bloom, and Hawkins went glamping!
From their foster momma: These three adventure Bulldogs had a blast in the great outdoors! They spotted deer, made friends with some donkeys, played with the toddler, and totally ignored the weather like the seasoned campers they are. Rain or shine, they were just happy to soak up the fun (and probably a few treats, too)!
5/1/25 UPDATE: Duchess Blackbeard is still undergoing her heartworm treatment, so she is just chilling with her toys and waiting for her restricted rest period to be over. Thanks for sending her some happy thoughts!
7/6/25 UPDATE: Foster kids Hawkins, Hazel Bloom and Duchess Blackbeard have been enjoying their holiday camping excursion! The foster momma said the days have been warm and buggy, so they’ve had to spend a bit more time hanging indoors.
