Kodiak

Kodiak

6/24/25 FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS ~ We’re shattered to share the news of the passing of alumnus Kodiak. From volunteer Meegyn: This past weekend, Kodiak “Kodi” crossed the Rainbow Bridge and left the Boone family broken. They did not get to love him long enough ~ he was adopted at the end of March. Please say an extra prayer to support them during this hard time. 💔

AWESOME ADOPITON ALERT! Kodiak’s new mom Tina and dad Ryan fell in love with him at first sight when they met him last week. So it was no surprise that they wanted to adopt him!

They drove up from Fort Worth to pick him up yesterday, and he was so excited to go to his new home! The second we attached the lead to his collar, he ran to the front door making sure he had his toy in his mouth, of course.

INTRODUCTION: They just don’t get any cuter or sweeter than Kodiak. At 5 years old, Kodiak spent several years as a ladies’ man in a breeding program.

Once he retired, he became a beloved member of a family, especially adored by the kids. For a while, he was the Bulldog they always dreamed of.

But, as sometimes happens, the excitement faded, and the kids’ interest waned. Kodiak, once the center of attention, was no longer everything to the family—except to his dad.

Kodiak’s dad loved him deeply. He worked with him, taught him manners, and showed him what it meant to be part of the family. But the challenges arose when his dad had to travel for work, and no one else in the household was willing to take on the responsibility of being a dedicated pet owner.

Eventually, Kodiak’s dad realized that his loyal companion deserved so much more than being a “sometimes” pet. He deserved a family who would love him, play with him, and make him a true part of their lives. Letting Kodiak join rescue was one of the hardest decisions he ever made, as Kodiak had become his best friend.

But in the end, his dad did what was best for Kodiak—he hugged him, told him how much he loved him, and knew that we will find him a family who will cherish him the way he always deserved.

3/7/25 Update:  Kodiak has settled in wonderfully over the past few days. He’s incredibly sweet and loves to be near his humans. We’ve yet to see him without a toy in his mouth—even when he’s heading out to potty!

He gets along well with other dogs and will only hop on the furniture if he’s invited. Kodiak doesn’t jump on people unless you have a toy in hand. He’s had a few accidents in the house, but we believe it’s just part of his adjustment process.
