Please light a candle for alumna Lucy as she recently left for the Rainbow Bridge. Her wings were ready, but the hearts of her family were not.
Her momma writes: We adopted Lucy in February of 2019. She was about 2 years old, and absolutely wild!
It did not take long for her to completely change our lives. She was so full of life! Loud and bossy and the obvious spark our family was missing.
She was always happy, and her cute little booty would show it, to the point that we nicknamed her “Wiggle Butt,” later shortened to Wigga.
Her little dance was contagious, and she made everyone do it with her. You should have seen the vet office when we were there. The other doctors and techs would come in her room just to dance with her. The scale was her stage, and she never let her fans down.
She later added singing to her performance repertoire. We would ask her to sing us a song and she would howl like a hound dog! It was the prettiest singing we’d ever heard.
About two years ago, Lucy lost the ability to use her back legs. We discovered she had serious spine malformations. She was in a lot of pain, and we feared it was time to let her go. We decided to try some therapy and some strong pain meds to see if there was any chance of improvement. She responded wonderfully and began to walk again.
We knew she was not going to have a long life, but we vowed to make the best of the time she had. We made steps and stairs to all her favorite furniture, so she had full access to all the comfy spots. If there was someone home, she was always being held.
Her last day was Friday. I think she knew it, but we didn’t.
My husband is a high school football coach, so this time of year he doesn’t get home until 2 a.m. or later on Friday nights. This week, he got home a little early, and she was so excited to see him….. almost like “you made it in time.”
She made me get our Frenchie out of the way, so she could cuddle with dad by herself. After about an hour with him, she got down out of his chair, and came to get in bed with me. She laid down beside me and took her last breath.
She was at peace, surrounded by love, and is no longer in pain. The ending that she deserved.
Our house is eerily quiet as we try to adjust to our new normal. Her older fur sisters are missing her too. We are saddened by her loss, but we are proud to have been her pawrents. She lived and loved so aggressively, she made sure she’d never be forgotten.
We love you, Wigga! You will be greatly missed.
📣Will all of our pawsome friends, please put your paws together 🐾 and help us celebrate 🎉 as we found our FURever home – together!🐶🐶 That’s right- we packed our bags and headed out the door. ✌🏽 Our FURever pawrents fell in love with both of us, just as much as we fell in love with them. 🥰
And guess what…we even have Bulldog siblings to hang with 🐶🐶, a huge backyard to play in, and our FURever dad told us we even get to be his high school football team’s cheerleaders. 📣 🏈 Anddddd our FURever pawrents promised us they would be patient with us as we continue to grow, learn and possibly push the limits from time to time 😉 (And just between us, it hasn’t stopped raining since we got to our FURever home, so we may already be pushing a limit or two.🤫)
Thank you 💋 to our foster pawrents and Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue. We are so excited for this new family we have been blessed with! We must sign off now, as we need to go do zoomies in the living room (because of the rain🙄), play hide’n’seak with all of our new toys, 💩 in the corner, have one-on-one time with our fur sis 👯, run and tackle each other, but smile pretty and tell our FURever mom we were just cuddling🤪and wait for our FURever dad to get home so we can all play tug-o-war. XoXoXo, 💚Lucy 💛Zola
Lucille is my proper name, but all my friends call me Lucy. And everyone who sees me, says “I Love Lucy!” They can’t help themselves. There is nothing NOT to love about me, all 33 lbs of me. I am a year and half, so I am just a baby Bulldog.
I’m learning to walk on a leash, but to tell you the truth: I love to be carried. I can walk about 5 feet, then I lay down, roll over and kick my legs in the air. I think I am really cute when I do that, but not everyone does, so I am trying to walk a little further each day. I’ve had all my medical needs taken care of, so I am ready to find a family that will treat me like the beautiful Bulldog lady I was born to be. I know you will love me because everyone loves Lucy.
8/28/18 Update: Update from Lucile’s foster momma: “Lucccccccy, you’ve got some ‘splainin to do!” hahaha – Not really, but we couldn’t resist! Lucy is such a joy to foster. Don’t let her petite size fool you. She loves to play and gets along great with everyone.
10/21/18 Update: Foster girl Lucy had such a wonderful time at Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue’s 15th annual Bull-O-Ween! She met a lot of awesome people and gave lots and lots of kisses 💋When we got in the car, Lucy told me, “It’s so exhausting being this cute. I can’t move another inch, so I’ll sit right here and cuddle with foster pops.”💞
If you’re hoping to be matched with a young, little sweetheart who deserves nothing but your love and patience as she continues to learn and grow, submit your application today.
11/20/18 Update: Gobble, Gobble… 🦃 I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! 😋
I’m still enjoying life here at my foster crib. Maybe, just maybe, Santa 🎅🏼 will bring me my perfect furever family for Christmas.🤞🏽 Foster Ma says I’m one of the most affectionate little gals she’s ever met. I always try to do my very best because I looooove to hear “Good girl, Lucy.” 🍖 Foster Ma says sometimes I get over stimulated and I try a little too hard, but she’s helping me. What can I say? I’m still learning, plus sometimes a girl just wants to have fun! Am I right? If you’d like to sit by a cozy fire, sip eggnog and read me A Christmas Story, apply today and paws 🐾 crossed we’re a match!
