Some dogs struggle in ways we simply do not understand. They struggle for reasons we will never know. Monty has been way too aggressive for way too long. He has had multiple unprovoked biting episodes. We know nothing of his background since we picked him up from a shelter. Maybe that is why he was never claimed from the shelter by his original owners. We will never know. But for his safety and the safety of everyone else, he was euthanized this week. Run free and be at peace, sweet boy.
My name is Monty and I am famous! Yesterday, my photo was all over social media and friends were begging someone to save me.
The shelter said I had to be out by 5:30 because I was sick. Well, 5:30 was fast approaching and my head was hanging low as I coughed.
Where are all those rescues? You know the ones that vowed to help the Bulldogs? Not just the cute and healthy ones, but all of them. The ones, like me, that need help the most.
I did have a secret, but I was asked not to share it. There was a rescue that wanted me. They just wanted to see who else might want me too. I really thought rescues would be standing in line to get me.
True, at about 7 years old, I am older, but older Bulldogs make great pets .
True, I am sick with a cough, but most of the dogs at the shelter are sick with a cough.
It’s not like I can’t get well. I just need some medication, maybe some breathing treatments and a safe place to rest.
At 4:30, it was obvious that no one else wanted to save me, But with my “ace in the hole,” I knew I wasn’t going to die. I would join Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue.
My new rescue friend had been sent my picture and information 39 times on Saturday. That doesn’t include the messages, the phone calls, and the pleas from even out of state. They all told her I needed help and I shouldn’t die because I have a cough.
Well, folks here I am, out of the shelter and resting after taking my medications. I have been given a chance at life, thanks to Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue.
9/12/23 Update: Bulldog friends these medications I am taking are the bomb. What started out as congestion and coughing has now stopped. That’s right, not one cough all day yesterday and all-night last night.
What I did have was hunger. I tried to clean everyone’s food bowl last night after supper. What someone should have told me is there were some bulldog ladies in the house that don’t eat all their food at one time. But they still consider that their food. I thought when they walked away, and I tried to slide in to finish it off, it would be ok. Well, it wasn’t ok, they chased me off like a rabid dog. I have never seen fat ladies move so fast. But I got the message and a fat lip. When I see a food bowl now with food in it, I know it does not belong to me. Even if they just sit and stare at it, they do intend to eat it later on. Trust me, I am a fast learner, and I will not make that mistake twice. I will just ask for a second helping in the bowl I was given.
I can hardly wait to see Dr. Larsen and tell her what happened to me. She’s going to be so upset some bulldog ladies jumped on me!
