1/18/26 FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS ~ Please share your love with foster momma Lari and her family, as they recently had to say their goodbyes to Olive Oyl.
Lari writes: Our hearts were broken for the third time in just four months. We’ve had three hospice foster dogs we’ve had to lovingly help cross the Rainbow Bridge, and this past Monday we made the incredibly difficult, but absolutely right, decision for our Ollie Dollie.
We had hoped to work with the vet on a treatment plan that might give her more time, as long as she wasn’t in pain. But the recent ultrasound revealed devastating news: the cancer had spread nearly everywhere throughout her abdomen. It was especially heartbreaking because Ollie sashayed into the vet’s office like she owned the place, and everyone in it. That was just who she was.
After saying goodbye, I truly thought we needed to take a break from fostering for a few weeks. Our hearts have taken a lot of hits lately. Then Tuesday morning came, and Dianne called asking if I could pick up another dog in need of rescue.
As I head into my 18th year of fostering and being part of Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue, I was reminded once again that rescue never stops. You grieve, you heal and you open your heart again. Each new foster dog brings something special into your life, just as the others leave their paw prints on your soul, whether they go on to their adoptive families or cross the Rainbow Bridge.
A BIG Texas-sized THANK YOU to every volunteer, foster, veterinarian and supporter who makes this rescue possible. I am truly honored to link arms with all of you as we dedicate our time, finances, love and energy to making Bulldogs’ lives better.

6/7/25 INTRODUCTION: Please welcome Olive Oyl to our rescue family. She’s about 2 years old and weighs 40 pounds, but this little Bulldog has already carried a heavy burden—literally and figuratively.
For who knows how long, Olive Oyl has been dragging around a mammary tumor that weighs about 5 pounds. That’s more than 10% of her body weight.
And yet… she greets the world with joy.
Olive Oyl has never met a stranger. She’s a social butterfly with a heart wide open, looking for love and giving it right back. She stops people in their tracks—not just because of her appearance, but because of her undeniable spirit. She insists on being seen, being spoken to, and most importantly, being loved.
Despite what she’s endured, she refuses to feel sorry for herself. She doesn’t know anything different. What she does know is how to wag her bum, light up a room, and ask for rubs like a pro.
We’re now waiting to find out whether her tumor is benign or malignant. If it’s cancerous, we face a much harder road. It could mean the cancer has already spread. Intact (unspayed) females like Olive Oyl are more prone to mammary tumors, and sadly, she’s no exception.
So we’re asking—please send Olive Oyl your strongest thoughts, your warmest prayers, and your fiercest hope. She deserves so much more than what life has given her so far. A future filled with health, safety, cuddles, and unconditional love.
We’ll keep you posted. Because Olive Oyl doesn’t just have a tumor—she has a fan club. And we believe her story is only just beginning.
6/13/25 Update from foster girl Olive Oyl: I wanted to give you a little update on how things went with my surgery. First of all, that big ol’ tumor I’d been dragging around took the longest to remove. But once I was under, the vet team found several more tumors—on both sides—along my mammary chain. Thankfully, those were smaller.
Now, we wait. In about five days, we’ll get the pathology results and find out whether I’m in for a long, happy Bulldog life—or if those tumors are something more serious. So please, send all the prayers, good vibes, crossed paws, and positive thoughts my way! I really, really want to stick around for many more belly rubs and naps in the sun.
Oh—and one tiny complaint. The food situation here? It’s just not cutting it. I need more meals, more often… and don’t forget the treats! Honestly, I feel like I’m wasting away. ![]()
Thank you all for the love and support! I’m staying strong. ![]()
Love,
Olive Oyl
6/18/25 Update: When Olive Oyl came into rescue, she was carrying a heavy burden—literally and figuratively. She had a massive tumor weighing nearly 5 pounds, along with several smaller ones. We now have the results, and sadly, they were confirmed to be cancerous.
Her prognosis is heartbreaking. Olive Oyl has been given just a 26% chance of surviving the next year. When additional tumors appear—as they likely will—it will be her time.
Our hearts are shattered for this sweet girl. She deserves comfort, dignity, and love for however much time she has left.
She will be placed in a hospice foster home—a soft place for Olive Oyl to rest, be spoiled, and know peace in her final chapter, She has so much love still to give.
Let’s surround Olive with the care she’s always deserved. If you would like to send her a gift from our wish lists, please visit dfwbulldogrescue.org/donate/
7/13/25 UDPATE: Update from Olive Oyl’s foster momma: We welcomed Olive Oyl into our home a few weeks ago as a hospice foster — but don’t let that label fool you. This girl is not ready to slow down! She’s bursting with classic Bulldog sass and charm.
Olive Oyl loves soaking up attention, hanging out with the other pups, gnawing on bones (and the occasional foster dad shoe) and mealtime — which is always a highlight. She’s a pro napper, a master couch-cover rearranger and has recently discovered that peanut butter and plain yogurt are pretty amazing treats.
Once she’s had her next vet visit, we’ll be starting her very own bucket list. However long we have with her, we’re going to make every moment count — and judging by her spirit, she’s got plenty of life left to live.
8/10/25 UPDATE: From foster girl Olive Oyl: My day started off amazing! I ran outside into the sunshine, took care of business like the good girl I am—and then things got interesting.
Foster Dad told me not to lie in the dirt. Naturally, I looked him right in the eye… and flopped down right in the dirt. What can I say? I’m a Bulldog—I do what I want!
