Ranger Leon

Ranger Leon

It has been a rough week in rescue. Newly adopted Ranger Leon died at the ER with his new mom. Ranger died from bloat. Bloat is serious and most always deadly. Ranger Leon was loved by his foster parents, Crossland and Blake. They are devastated, as is his new Mom. The time we have with these bulldogs is never long enough, but when a life is cut short like this, we never really get over it. We try and heal, we go on, but we never really get over it. Our thoughts and prayers are with his grieving family as he crosses the Rainbow Bridge.

It’s sometimes so bittersweet when a foster Bulldog is adopted. You’ve watched them bloom and grow, and they’ve become a big part of your life.

That said, we knew Ranger Leon deserved a home where he could get a monster share of attention. This boy is a pure lovebug and really deserved a home to call his own.

I’m so happy to report that Ranger Leon got his wish.

His new mom drove all the way from the Houston area to meet him because she just loved how active and loving he sounded.

I knew he needed a special home where someone would welcome a very active and curious boy who loves to play and his walks!

He now has one fur brother named Gus Gus, who is a super chill dude, didn’t seem to mind Ranger Leon licking off his face!

Many happy tails, Ranger Leon. We loved having you in our home and are thrilled you have someone who will love you and be active with you!

Ranger Leon would like everyone to know what he did to join rescue. He did absolutely nothing.

Ranger had the same mother for six years who loved him dearly. However, after a diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Ranger’s mother knew that he deserved more care than she physically could give him.

Ranger is a great Bulldog. He loves every dog he meets and every person who shows him attention. Ranger loves to walk, sit in laps and lay on the couch. Mealtime is his favorite time and he adores treats.

There were a lot of tears today and it was a long goodbye, but today, Ranger began his search for a new family who will love a big cuddle bug just in time for Christmas.

Ranger met a customer at the nursery today who absolutely adored him, and if was not for the fact he already had six dogs at home, he told Ranger that he would put him in his shirt pocket and be gone!

12/29/23 Update:  Ranger Leon has been in our home for about three weeks now. I wanted to give him some time to adjust before giving an update.

First off, he is a beautiful dog. Best of all, though, is how he has fit in with the pack. It took a little bit for that to get sorted, as an established pack of five is intimidating to try to break into.

Ranger loves to walk and he loves to play. When two of the pups are playing, he will chase them around the yard, but stay on the periphery of it. It’s great exercise for him and he is happy to run around.

That said, Ranger is an active dog who loves to go on walks. He is a great walker and super company for me. I typically walk him with another one of my dogs and they get along splendidly.

It took Ranger about a week to settle in, which meant he wasn’t eating well. Once he acclimated, he started eating like a champ and has followed the other dogs’ leads by following me around the kitchen at food time. He gets quite excited at the prospect of treats and food.

He has never chewed anything in the house, but I do keep an eye on him because he loves toys and sometimes he mistakes a pillow for a toy.. As of now, I’m comfortable with him having the run of the house, but only if I can keep an eye on him to ensure he doesn’t steal my pillows!

He has a sweet personality. He’s very affectionate with me and will get in between me and another dog if he thinks the other dog is playing too rough. It is very endearing.

Have I mentioned how beautiful he is? See for yourself.

1/11/24 Update:  Ranger is doing very well in his foster home. He continues to get along with the other dogs; however, he’s not a fan when another dog gets uppity with foster mom. He tries to run interference. Sweet boy.

He is slowly getting the run of the house. I keep him out with me as long as I can keep an eye on him. He had a few accidents in the house, but he hasn’t had any lately, which is why he’s gaining more freedom. What a good boy.

He loves to walk, loves his toys and would love to help you get your steps in for all those “move more” resolutions you have.

2/9/24 Update:  Please join us in wishing foster boy Ranger Leon a very happy birthday! Born in the month of love, this sweet guy is ready to give kisses and cuddles to a new family this Valentine’s Day. Maybe you’d be his perfect match?

2/16/24 Update:  Ranger Leon continues to be a good house mate. He would love to have a permanent playmate and walking companion. But mostly, he really just wants to be near his people. He is exceptionally loyal and loving.

2/29/24 Update:  Sweet boy Ranger Leon is happy outside, he’s happy inside, he just wants to be near you! I have a constant shadow all day long; even if he’s dead asleep, he can sense me walking by and follows me. In this pic, I tried sneaking past him and his face says, “Where do you think you’re going? Not without me!”

3/5/24 Update:  Ranger Leon is doing great at his temporary foster home, Hitchcock Manor, while his foster parents go on a much-deserved vacation.  Not only is this guy handsome, he is such a good boy as well.  He’s getting along great with all the other dogs in the house, and he follows me around everywhere.  Anyone would be lucky to have him.

3/13/24 Update:  Ranger Leon is doing great in his temporary foster home. He’s getting along well with all other dogs and is a great guest. He is just happy to be around people, he never complains, and is such a good boy. He’s so good, he’s earned a spot on the big bed at night with his temporary foster parents.

3/19/24 Update:  Ranger Leon has been the perfect house guest in his temporary foster home. He will go back to his real foster parents this week, and we will miss this sweet boy. He is welcome back whenever, but hopefully, he will be adopted soon.

Anyone would be lucky to have him. He loves people, dogs, car rides, and walks. And he’s good about pottying outside most of the time. His only quirk is that he really likes to bark at other dogs on the other side of our fence line. He thinks it’s “fun.”

4/19/24 Update:  Foster Mom says I’m just a great dog. I’m loyal and will watch you all day to make sure you are OK. I’ve mastered pottying outside, I’m a great eater and I love to keep Foster Mom company on walks. I am a great mix of companion and snuggler. Here I am in my two modes: player and companion!

5/1/24 Update:  He has immense amounts of love to give, immense amounts of walks to take and immense amounts of licks to give and immense number naps to take WITH YOU!

He really is a loyal dog and a great guard dog. He sleeps by my bedside at night and stands guard while I shower, all while looking very handsome. Additionally, he has found his spot in the pack so he appears to get along with boys and girls.
