Ruby was a mill momma who never did anything wrong. She survived in a Missouri puppy mill until she was rescued. Her life with us was short, but we take comfort knowing when she left, she knew what love was and what it meant to be part of a family. She will live in our hearts forever.
Rest in peace, Ruby Wrinkles. You made us all better people by knowing you.
Today, I joined rescue and it was a scary time for me. I was just about paralyzed with fear.
The same thing happened to me on Saturday, when all of my friends left for Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue. While they were running around the yard at the ranch, I was lying beside the fence, face in the dirt digging like a wild child.
I have no idea where I thought I could dig to…. All I know is that digging seemed to be the best thing to do. So, I dug.
When everyone started leaving, I just wanted to lay in my hole. I looked around and five Bulldogs had left. Now, it was just me and Holly Day. Holly wanted to go, but the cars were all loaded.
Holly looked at me, told me to get out of my hole and come inside to take a bath. A bath? Another thing that just scared me to death. I don’t remember ever having a bath before, but I must say, it was wonderful.
Are you wondering if I can walk? Sure, I can run like the wind. But if you see me running, I am running away from people.
I can’t tell you about the place I lived. I just know that there were a lot of dogs there and I was one of the lucky ones who got to leave.
I am 2 years old, 34 lbs and today is the first day of the rest of my life. My life will be changed forever. Follow me on social media, and with time, patience and love, I will one become the beautiful, beloved Bulldog I was born to be.
9/16/22 Update: Unfortunately, we’re concerned she may have heart disease. Radiographs show a large heart and fluid-filled lungs. We’re sending a referral to the cardiologist for a consult before any type of anesthesia can be done.
Radiographs also show her to have a fused spinal column, just past the thoracic area, which causes her to have spondylosis. We need to make sure we restrict her activity because it could be easier to rupture a disc.
Her gums are pale, and her lungs and heart are muffled, so we also may be facing pneumonia. We will be starting her on amoxicillin and cough tabs.
She has a large hernia on her midline and an ear infection. When she is cleared by he cardiologist, we’ll schedule her spay and hernia repair.
