Please join us in sending love and heartfelt support to our dear volunteers, Nancy and Scott, parents of alumna Sydney. Sydney recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Her spirit will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
They wrote: It is with bittersweet heavy hearts that we write to tell you that our little Sydney and Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue alumna left without warning for Heaven on April 11, 2025.
She collapsed in her “happy place,” having fun at daycare. Ironically, we were there, scooped her up and rushed her immediately to the Frisco Emergency Pet Care ER. CPR was valiantly performed, but we could never get her back. She had completed her missions here on earth and was onto a higher calling in the heavens.
We are still in shock, trying to adjust to life without her and have reflected on so many memories. We’d like to share some with you.
We knew early on she was a special little girl. We adopted her at 11 months of age in 2016 to be a sibling for our older big American Bulldog Caesar.
She adored her big brother, following him everywhere like little sisters do. Caesar, being the kind and patient big brother that he was, took her under his wing.
She blossomed and grew into a very beautiful and loving Bulldog with just the right amount of sass. It was easy to see that she was highly intelligent, determined, and opinionated with a true zest for life.
She wasn’t created for a sedentary lifestyle or for a protracted terminal illness in the end. This little girl was created for amazing things! She was athletic and tenacious, doing agility and achieved her Canine Good Citizen awards at What a Great Dog Training Center in Frisco when she was very young.
She loved playing dress up, taking pictures and the cameras loved her. She LOVED water, the garden hose and playing in the kiddie pool, so we affectionately referred to her as Syd the Squid or just Squid.
She went on to be an ambassador for so many foster dogs and adopted dogs in our pack. We noticed over time, she tended to annoy most of the females, but had an affinity for the big boys, in our pack, including several Great Danes, Otis and Vic. She followed them everywhere, licking their ears and mouths until they dripped a river of spit, but every single one of them patiently tolerated her, and loved her for who she was and so did we.
We understood her happy carefree spirit and knew she was going to live life to the fullest and likely go out with a bang! Knowing this was her true essence, we supported her endeavors as parents and we prayed that when that day came it would be quick, and she would go out happy playing, and that’s exactly what happened.
While expecting this at some point, we really weren’t expecting it now! It’s still a shock and the grief profound, because we still thought she would outlive us all. She was just too sassy to die! At 9.5 years old, she was considered senior by age, but she was truly forever young in spirit.
She was not a “couch potato” Bulldog, but rather a Border Collie in a Bulldog suit! She thrived on the moment, the action and the thrill of life. She was constantly on a mission, never to be deterred, always completely ignoring the meaning of NO and STOP!
While she loved being a schooled young lady and going to What A Great Dog; she found her true happiness at Dogtopia Daycare of Frisco.
At Dogtopia, she was truly free there to run and play to her heart’s desire. We saw the joy it gave her in being there and that made us so happy. She couldn’t wait to go to daycare and never wanted to leave. She was up before the sun, ready to go and pulled us through the door upon arrival at daycare every time.
At the end of the day when it was time to go home, it was completely embarrassing, because she never wanted to leave! We literally had to coax her out the door with the promise to return and play again tomorrow and every time she reluctantly capitulated.
Dogtopia Daycare of Frisco was her extended family for five years and will always have a special place in our hearts. She loved everyone there, canine coaches and all dogs, male and female alike. She gravitated to the big boy dogs of course, doing the same licking and cleaning of the ears and mouth, in fact in true spirit, when she took her last breath, she collapsed in front of her beloved Great Dane buddy, Scooby.
She left happy, surrounded by everyone she loved and everyone who loved her. Our Sydney was always a free spirit with a gypsy soul, determined, decisive, happy, and always on a mission never to be deterred and I would suspect in Heaven she would be no different.
We miss you dearly, Sydney. Sunrise and sunset are so hard without you! Until we meet again little girl, in the words of Kenny Chesney be free and “happy on the hey now.”
Sydney has been ADOPTED!!!
Can you hear the bugle blowing at the start of the horse race? I can cause I so want to be in that race! My name is Sydney and I am 10 months old and I have lightening speed. I heard my foster momma say “Did you train with Secretariat, the greatest race horse of all time, because you are faster than a speeding bullet?” Nah, I am just a puppy and I need someone to play with me! My family knew that leaving me alone in a crate all day was not the life I needed. I hate that crate now. And even though I am young, fast, and extremely adorable I need an active family that can take me with them, teach me to walk not run, and let me be a part of all the things that happen in their lives daily. I am prepared to learn to stay when I sit, and not leap in the air when I see you coming. But please be patient with me, I am just a big bulldog baby and in my world everything is fun, exciting, all mine, needs to be chewed on, and nothing is off limits. If I can describe myself to you I would say I am the total package of perfection, with a little naughty thrown in just to keep you on your toes ! My name is Sydney the Greatest Bulldog of all time!
7/18/16 Update: Sydney is a young, beautiful, energetic girl who is thrilled to have other dogs to play with. She is slowly learning to walk on a leash and some basic manners. She just gets so excited to be around people who want to love on her and she just wants to play, play, play, and play some more… whether it’s with her fur friends or her people. She will settle down for a short nap and she loves dinner time, but then it is back to playing!
