Hershey David was transferred to Chloe’s Canines Dog Sanctuary where he can get better care for his needs.
I’ve chosen to introduce myself today, on what I’ll call “Triumphant Tuesday.”
I’m 5 months old, and on November 5, I joined rescue, though I’ve been flying under the radar since then. Before that, I had quite the journey.
I started out in two different animal shelters and even spent some time at an emergency vet clinic. That clinic was where my family decided to have me put to sleep. I had been diagnosed with parvo, and they didn’t think I’d survive.
I didn’t fully understand what parvo was, but I knew something was terribly wrong, and I could feel myself slipping away. The ER became my new home, and that’s when a shelter stepped in.
They tried, but they realized quickly that they didn’t have the resources to help me. So, they called another shelter with an isolation area, hoping they could give me a fighting chance. I was improving, but things weren’t easy — let’s just say, everything ran right through me. Even when I could manage soft food, it didn’t stay down.
Then, I heard something incredible: “Rescue said they would take you. If you have a chance, it’s with them.”
And just like that, I ended up at Bright Star Veterinary Clinic and the real work began.
The tests showed I still had parvo, and on top of that, I had giardia. At that point, I had almost given up. Parvo is often a death sentence, and with the giardia, I didn’t know if I had the strength to keep fighting.
But Dr. Larsen was determined. She said, “Let’s take it one day at a time, and see if we can save you.”
Day by day, week by week, I fought — and now, here I am, alive and well! I’m negative for both parvo and giardia, though I’m still on a bland diet (Dr. Larsen says that’s best for now). But I can hold my head high, run like the wind, and I’ve even started gaining weight.
My name is Hershey David, and I believe in miracles. I am triumphant!
