INTRODUCTION: Because I grew up in the country, I can tell you all about dogs who get dumped there.

They starve to death. They get run over. A farmer shoots them for chasing livestock and looking for food. They are attacked by other dogs. Bottom line? The people in the country don’t want those dogs, so they die…. either a quick death or a long slow death.

Sir Vance was dumped in the country and nearly lost his life. He was running with another dumped female dog who was in heat. Sir Vance was viciously attacked by two other male dogs and the young boy ~ about 1 year old ~ didn’t stand a chance. One was on either side of him and it seemed they tried to rip his head off.  The wounds are deep, and we’re not sharing the worst pics.

But today, Sir Vance is safe. He is loved. And he is a survivor. It’s taken time, but he’s beginning to heal—both physically and emotionally.

The shelter staff absolutely adored him, and saying goodbye wasn’t easy. But as much as they loved him, they knew a shelter is no place for a Bulldog. These dogs need a home—a real one—filled with people who will love them for life, not leave them to survive on their own.

When the rescue wagon arrived, Sir Vance seemed to know it was time for a new chapter. He packed up his things, hopped in, and said his goodbyes. One of the staff members even painted a portrait of him so they’d never forget his journey from heartbreak to healing.

Despite everything he’s endured, Sir Vance has the gentlest soul. He’s loved every dog he’s met and doesn’t seem to have a single mean bone in his body.

But his journey isn’t over yet—Sir Vance is heartworm positive and will soon begin treatment. Once he’s recovered, he’ll be ready to find the family he’s always deserved.

His heartworm treatment will cost between $800–$1,000. Can you help us give this brave boy the care he needs?

5/1/25 UPDATE:  It’s taken a while, but Sir Vance has started to heal: physically and emotionally.

The shelter LOVED him, and they hated to see him go.  But a shelter is no place for a bulldog to live forever because they need their very own family to be a part of. So, it was a sad emotional day when Sir Vance packed his stuff, jumped into the rescue wagon and said his good byes.

One of the office ladies painted a picture of him so they would always remember Sir Vance and the condition he came in and the condition he left in.

Sir Vance loves every dog he has met and does not seem to have a mean bone in his body. He will start heartworm treatment in the future and then he will be looking for the perfect family to love him forever.

12/20/25 UPDATE: From the foster momma: Sir Vance has been keeping a low profile while he bravely goes through treatment for heartworms. 💙

In just a few weeks, he’ll head back to the vet to check and see if those pesky heartworms are officially gone. Fingers and paws crossed!

This sweet, gentle soul is all about the cozy life. You’ll usually find him lounging in a comfy chair or stretched out on the couch, soaking up the calm. Sir Vance plays well with other dogs and has the kind of soft, kind spirit that just makes you smile.

He does still have a few puppy tendencies and may jump a bit when he’s excited. He just has a lot of love to give! What he wants most is a family to call his own, where he can relax, be adored and share his gentle heart.
