I am so excited to tell everyone I have been adopted. I was worried that no one would love me or want me because of my ears. Most Bulldogs have ears that no one has cropped. But, not me.
I was nervous when I found out I had a meet-and-greet. All I could think of was “Please want me and please love me.”
When I realized that I was getting to meet a family that had already adopted from rescue and I was going to get to meet alumnus Archie, I was just giddy!
Archie was so warm and welcoming. Then I heard, “There is one more named Emmitt. Let’s see if he likes you too.”
Emmitt, who’s the size of a pony, loved me too. He let me run back and forth and around him. If he’s standing, I can run under him and don’t even have to duck.
I love my new life, my new family and my new brothers. My new mom, Shannon, and my new dad, Kevin, decided I needed a new name too. I am now Ruby, queen of everything.
Hard to believe I went from being picked up as stray, staying a few weeks in a shelter, to joining rescue and then finding this amazing family who promised to always love me.
Christmas came early for me. It will be the best Christmas ever for me, Queen Ruby, the little lady who is sweet as can be!
Bulldog family today I joined rescue. And I am so excited to be here.
I was picked up by a local animal control for roaming around town. It was hot outside, and I was glad for a ride in the truck with some air-conditioning. The shelter workers told me I was one of their favorites, and every day they held me and told me not to be so scared.
Truth was, I am scared. My family had chopped my ears off, almost down to my head. They wanted me to look mean and act tough. Truth is I am neither. I love everyone I meet, and I am super scared, and I don’t even know what tough means. I only weigh 35 lbs. and anyone that wanted could beat me up because I am not a fighter.
The rescue lady who picked me up today named me Butterscotch. She said that was her favorite candy and that I was just as sweet as that candy.
So. bulldog people even though I am black, with cropped ears, please love me. I can’t erase my past, but I am sure going to love my future.
My name is Butterscotch. I am about 3 years old, and I will be needing a family soon who will love me forever.
11/21/22 Update: I am in my foster home now and it is going great! I am still scared of loud noises, sudden movements or a lot of activity, but for the most part, I am learning how to be a part of a family. I got a new harness to make walking easier. I walked on a leash last night all the way around the block. It was great. At the end of my walk, I did a little jump up in the air. I was so proud of myself. I am learning I can trust people and snuggling is a good thing. My perfect family will be soft-spoken, calm and reassuring. I am trying hard to forget my past and looking forward to a fabulous new family who will love me forever.
11/30/22 Update: Rescue gave me freedom.
Life had not been that great for me. Someone chopped my ears off to my head and tried to make me look mean. I had puppies at one time, but I have no idea what happened to them.
Black dogs in rescue groups and shelters seem to be the last to find families, for some reason. I hope that’s not me.
Sometimes, when people see me, they act scared. When I go for a walk, people often cross the street when they see me coming.
But let me tell you, there’s never been a sweeter Bulldog than me!
I can now walk on a leash and I can sit when you ask me. In my foster home, I’ve made friends with the friendly dogs. We wrestle, run and play all the time. For me, it’s been a dream come true. I am waiting for a family who sees me for what I am: a beautiful, kind and sweet soul.
