Commander

Commander

5/26/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: Commander came into Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue over a year ago. Found on a construction site, he was brought home by one of the workers. They determined he needed to come into rescue. He was at the vet clinic for quite some time as he had to have heartworm treatment.

He came into our home, where we had five other dogs. He would scrap with a few of them and was very distrustful of humans. You could see it in his eyes and a couple of times, he lashed out at us. Ouch.

Not all dogs can overcome whatever was in their past, so we knew he was not a candidate for adoption. We had another Bulldog that was just like him, Bear. When Bear passed away, we knew that Commander was here to stay and that he would honor Bear by occasionally nipping us and being generally ornery.

Don’t let his good looks fool you. Commander is a grumpy old man. But he’s OUR grumpy old man and he is here to stay.

INTRODUCTION: Commander doesn’t know how he and his lady friend ended up getting lost. They found their way to a business and they hung around there for two weeks, hoping someone would come looking for them.

After hanging around so long, the people who worked there started trying to scare them away. They said they were ready for them to move on.

Well, everyone but one man. He wanted to help both of them. However, by the time he made the decision to help, the female Bulldog had disappeared, leaving Commander behind by himself.

Commander was happy when he got to leave the business. His new friend gave him a bath and started feeding him regular meals. His new friend has other dogs, kids and cats and he loves them all ~ but he soon realized he wasn’t a Bulldog person and that Commander needed a rescue that knew about the breed .

Commander will be visiting Dr. Larsen soon. Then, he’ll be sifting through the approved applications to find a family who will never lose him again.

6/7/24 update:  I am settling into my foster home.  It was not without some bumpsafter all, I was found as a stray although it’s clear I was someone’s dog at one point as I know how to sit on command.

I’ve had to relearn that outside is the place to go potty although I did remember that pretty quickly.  I also think I’ve had some trauma in my past life bc I DO NOT like to be reprimanded.

In general, I like every dog that’s in this house ( and there are 5 of them!).  There is one dog that i don’t care for but things are settling down on that score.  Perhaps I will learn to get along with him too.

I enjoy walking and I love my squeak toys.

8/29/24 update:  Commander stayed at our house this weekend while his temporary foster is out of town, and all I can say is what a hunk of a man!  He’s a big boy who is really just a big baby….he loves to suck on his stuffies at night to get to sleep.  He has gotten along great with all the other dogs in the house (6 females, all sizes & Tiny Tyga).
