6/23/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: Yesterday was bittersweet — our sweet, shy girl Petula left to live with her new family.
When she came into our foster home just five weeks ago, Petula was a shell of a dog. Her ribs were showing. She was too afraid to look us in the eye, too nervous to walk, and too overwhelmed to eat. Every sound startled her. Every movement made her flinch. She was shut down, overwhelmed by the world, and carrying the weight of her past.
All we could offer her was patience, love, and the promise that life would never be that scary again.
And with time, she began to bloom.
She slowly gained weight. Mealtimes became her favorite part of the day — she learned to love breakfast and dinner. She discovered toys and began to play in short, joyful bursts. Most touching of all, she started to light up when I walked into the room — prancing shyly, wiggling and showing glimpses of a heart beginning to trust.
Just this past week, Petula found a new favorite: one of the big, fluffy dog beds. She finally hopped in, curled up, and began sleeping there each night, all cozy and tucked in. It was another little milestone that felt huge.
On Saturday, we made the trip to introduce her to her potential family’s other pup, Piper — and it couldn’t have gone better. The girls got along beautifully, and Petula did something truly incredible: she stepped off the safety of the porch and wandered into the grass, exploring and taking in her new surroundings with curiosity and calm. That small step was a huge milestone for her.
We had a feeling it might be love from the very first day they met — this family had recently lost their beloved Bulldog, Lola, after nearly 13 wonderful years. There was an immediate tug at their hearts, and they just knew Petula might be the missing piece.
And sure enough — she’s now home, officially. They’ve already started calling her Tootin’ Tula, and if that doesn’t sound like a Bulldog who’s found her place, we don’t know what does.
Piper will help show her the ropes. Her new family will shower her with love. And Tula will keep growing braver, funnier and more spoiled by the day — exactly how it should be.
Happy forever, sweet girl.
You were worth every moment.

INTRODUCTION: At just 3 years old, Petula is a tiny, gentle soul who’s still learning to feel safe.
She rode in the front seat with me so I could talk to her and offer comfort, but she never made eye contact—too scared, too shut down.
She was originally surrendered to another rescue, but her emotional state made it clear she needed a more specialized environment. Rather than opening up, she was withdrawing even more. That’s when they called us, knowing a Bulldog-specific rescue would understand her needs and give her the best chance to heal.
Petula is incredibly sweet, with fur as soft as velvet. She’s already spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready to start her journey toward a brighter future.
She’ll be attending tomorrow’s Pizza Paw-ty in Plano with Debbie, riding in a stroller and taking in the world at her own pace.
Petula’s perfect family will be patient, gentle, and full of love—ready to show this beautiful little lady that she’s finally safe and home for good.
